So I was looking for a new backpack. There is a Thai brand called Taywin that makes pretty decent stuff and I saw in the mall shop they were offering a special : buy one backpack and get one free deal for 1990 Thai baht.
I pointed out to sales clerk that I only needed one and the online store of the very same company was selling the single backpack at 890 Thai baht. She couldn't seem to grasp that her deal was worse than the company direct sales channel where I could order 2 for 1780 Thai baht.
I gave up and ordered a competing brand at 890 baht for virtually an identical backpack. Don't sellers realize that everyone can easily check their own company store to compare brick and mortar pricing. ?
Buy 1 get 1 free deal. 🤣
While you are 100% correct that comparing prices is super easy, you'd be surprised at the number of people who will just assume that "get one free" is a deal WITHOUT bothering to check. At least this is true here in the USA.

To be honest, I would have bought one for 1/2 price but it seems quite dishonest to more than double the price up on 1 unit and then tell people they're getting one for free. And yeah I would have no issue paying a bit of a premium over online for the immediate satisfaction of grabbing one in the shop. But just the fact of trying to trick folks is wrong

100%. These days I see so many "so-called sales" that just are not good deals, and at best, should be the normal price. Big companies have been reporting record profits for quite some time now, and I think it's time we stop that, reclaiming a consumer-based economy. I think you buying the alternative that was already priced reasonably instead of the one claiming to be a sale is a great example. Watch the prices of things you buy, and only buy when they're actually well priced. FOMO is a scam.
