Weekend guests.... eating all my time!

Former neighbors came to visit for the weekend, with their new innovative camper.
OK.

That used up all my time, stories, eating hot dogs inside the machine when it's eighty deg. outside, lots of bla bla, impossible to set decent time for meals, three-hour long breakfast, no real plans...

A popular bumper sticker here, on Cape Cod reads " I am no on your vacation" and sometimes it sums it up pretty well!
(my ideal day of visitors: breakfast together, and past ten, go away on your bikes, walk trails, etc. and come back for food, tell us about your day).

We also adopted a new ten-year dog, so we have to also monitor that all along, so extra work there.

I am exhausted, and I am trying to fix it with a strong margarita!

Does anybody experience that, or am I a lone, grumpy old guy?

I hate guests and especially former neighbors, they know too much of your past. But I try to be a good host because I think how sad their lives must be to resort to visiting me.

Yes, I have experienced a strong Margarita on several occasions.

May not work with guests in their own camper unit but I have found having no coffee in the house works to ward off overnighters. When we first got married my BIL came down to Florida to visit my MIL, his and my wife's mom. He decided to tie one on and spend the night at our house during this trip to Florida. The next morning I was up early cooking breakfast. The aroma wafting though the house was delicious. He came walking into the kitchen and wanted some coffee. I let him know we had none. He walked away, got his things, went out to the car and drove away. He never asked to stay overnight again. There was extra bacon for me.

Also the dude forgot his hat, so I lent him one
He managed to rip and lose the clasp of my favorite one (happens) without saying a thing (huh?).

I know, small matters, but it seems I am always on the wrong end of the deals!
And the general rule is, you don't mess with my stuff. Sorry.

It turns out the space we have for the exotic teardrop camper is cramped, so that may be a mild deterrent, but, sadly for me, it is free...!

I have found that keeping a few project rooms where other people would have called guest rooms is a pretty good deterrent. I've still had my share of couch crashers, but they don't just move on in. Lucky me, I don't have a space that a camper could reasonably park on.

I understand what you say, @PoodlesAgain . It has nothing to do with one being grumpy or anything, it´s about common sense and respect. Even with family. I live by "I treat people the way I want to be treated by them". Some don´t get it.

I like the "I am not on your vacation" and "Don´t mess with my stuff" rules. That´s what common sense is. Also, make sure that your kids are well behaved if you want to come visiting.

When our son was born, I had a friend, we were coworkers - we´re still friends -, that wanted to come to visit and see our son after his shift, it was after 10 pm. We were already ready to sleep and our baby was also sleeping. Those of you with sons know how irregular is that time, you don´t really have a quiet time, and when the baby is sleeping, you also try to get some sleep and rest, or do whatever you couldn´t do while taking care of the baby. The second night he showed up I had to tell him not to come visit at that time for the obvious reasons; I know he didn´t take it that well, but he understood. That´s what I meant with common sense. And besides, people should not visit couples with a newborn because they are not really in the best moment for attending visitors and everything. I mean, unless you´re very close to them, and you actually go visit them to help them - cooking, washing, do some errands they can´t, etc. -, you should not go visiting.

Anyway, I know the feeling. I suppose they´re gone by now, aren´t they?

Yes!
However, I too am a grumpy old guy. Good or bad, you are not alone.
We have a new rescue puppy almost a month now. He got fixed and chipped Monday.
He and 2 sisters found in a roadside ditch in GA in Feb. MFs who did it should be euthanized.

Or that is the story.
Sometimes I wonder if at least some of these Rescues are the new front for puppy mills, I don't know - I'm one cynical A Hole.

I haven't gotten much sleep or guitar time since, especially the last few days - zero on the guitar time.

Worth it.
Hope is for some sleep and guitar this weekend. My fingertips are starting to get soft.

We approached two puppy mill rescue orgs and they were very strict with standards they expected. We met one former mill mommy dog, The poor thing was so confused by the outside world, people. Very sad. Good luck to you, Ruby.

Ours is doing well. "First" dog is adjusting.

Guitars: my dentist has 15, likes to tinker with pickups. I am turning him on New Orleans music with a thumb drive shock-full of stuff like Crescent City Blues FestWWOZ galas archives!

I am lucky to have had some great former neighbors. One we ran into last April in a restaurant, who we had not seen in a decade, quietly paid our bill as they left before us.

maybe I've always been grumpy. When I was in college and sharing an apartment with a couple guys, one of them had a friend who had already graduated. He had no plans, no life. He asked my room mate if he could sleep on our (my) couch one night while he was in town. That one night became a year or two of sleeping on my couch. I moved out as soon as the lease was up, I think they all stayed. I don't think he ever paid rent, bought food, or anything. He was a permanent nuisance. I think he is probably still bumming other's peoples couches somewhere out there LOL...

Wait, the former neighbors are fine, it is just that they should have gotten their day going, not stay on my lap! Another one, on the same register: Guest former SIL, and also a cousin's spouse would sleep until 11 a.m., at which point you have to come up with another round of breakfast...! Hecks your day fast.

I told the wife I want a Lamborghini Huracan - not because it is a Lamborghini, (many greats in that class) but 'cause I fell in love with the shape of the car. Of note: Valentino Rossi drives car #46, BMW, and holding his own.
