Well I guess I'm glad I didn't run out and spend a grand getting my banged up celica fixed. It was soon after that the shift linkage stopped letting me shift into 2nd reliably. Then it added 4th to the prob. When reverse stopped working I shouldn't have been surprised. My mechanic said it's hopeless. It's a whole cable assembly and they don't make it , repair or copy it. It's a 99 and there maybe 1 in a junkyard somewhere but not that I can find. And it will also have 200k on it typically. Had a mobile mechanic take a look as we hoped a modified bushing could fix it but no. We think maybe a welder could custom cut the cable bushing ends and custom shorten them. But would it destroy? Cut how much? It's basically a cable assembly with cables in sleves with brass fittings on the ends. No wonder it always shifted so shifty. It's hard to believe a decent running fun car with a passing smog good motor and trans and a killer stereo may need to be junked. Pretty sure if it was a much older 72 nova I could keep it running forever.

I hope not. You'd think there'd be some around for harvesting. Maybe there's a database of donor cars somewhere that your mechanic doesn't access?

I would also hit some Celica Forums for possible replacements/workarounds.

The part number is 33820-2B320, as far as I can sort.

Not sure if this works....says it is good to 1997.

Worst case you are out $50 if it isn't close enough to work...

What year Celica? I had a 1974 GT that I loved. Also had a 1985 Celica Supra.

I have a 2000 Chevy Astro van and some parts are getting hard to find. Good luck and I hope you can get it fixed. If not that thing had a a good run. My Toyota Sienna band van took me over 250K and still ran like a champ when they gave me $1000 for it on trade in for my Wrangler. Hard to beat a Toyota.

I love old car and trucks and own several but parts are a problem with not really vintage but old models. I had a Lincoln LS which was a sexy little car but not that many were ever made so parts were really getting hard to find. I let my Grand daughter have it figuring she could get a few more years out of it with me doing any needed repairs. Sadly at 18 she was more interested in talking to her friend than watching the road in a bumper to bumper situation and well you know the story. She totaled it by hitting the truck in front, no one was hurt but it doesn't take much front end damage to total a car of that age and relative rarity IE 2006. I have a 2004 Avalanche which because of its popularity their are still lots of parts for thank goodness and a 2004 Hyundai sonata which is pretty hard to find parts for now. I'm a shade tree mechanic and love to work on them so they keep running quite well but I feel ya on the obsoleted parts problem. When I needed a gas cap and truck lid button which is on my driver side door panel of the Sonata I had to go to the local Upick it and was fortunate enough to find a Sonata that had one otherwise I was SOL. Good luck with your problem, I think if you persevere you may luck out like I did.
