Sips seltzer. I already drank ALL the beer.
I always liked Mexican Pacifico, in Mexico from a bag of ice watching the sunset on a beach after a day of SCUBA. Sounds like a commercial, buf it really happened, more than ten times.

Down here, if you only say "una fría" ("one cold"), would be enough, you don´t even have to say "cerveza"

Same as with English, Spanish has its easy and difficult parts to learn. Just keep at it!honyock wrote: ↑Thu Dec 02, 2021 7:03 pmI just downloaded the app, I remember and have picked up more than I would have expected.ID10t wrote:I have been using Duolingo for Turkish and I'm pretty impressed. I can muddle through a little Spanish but my most useful phrase was "donde dolor." Let's hope you don't need that one.
The gender modifier o/a kept dinging me.

Uno mas cerveza... Uno mas tequila... Followed by: Donde esta el baño?
When it came to Mexican beers (back when I was a drinking man), I was rather partial to Negro Modello. I would never touch a Corona, or Tecate, or Pacifico...honyock wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 1:30 pm There are so many better beers coming out of Mexico now...When we went to the plant in Tecate there were some really decent beers coming out of the Baja region (I am sure there are others as well). Don't need to settle for the same old boring ambers or lagers anymore.
Unless somebody handed me one, that is.
Finally escaping the People's Republic of Kalifornia!

I am already surprised how people all of a sudden are listening to me differently, it is a weird feeling. I was always more of a Peter type and it would be like if he had actually taken the promotion.
I have been drinking way too much coffee this week and it has made me seem a bit manic compared to my previous very low energy demeanor. I feel like if I don't keep that energy up, I am going to fail, so I hope my heart doesn't explode when I am drinking like a pot of coffee or more each day until I can fix everything...
I feel like Dan Campbell taking over the Lions after spending this week on the other side of the fence.

How was week 2? I hope they didn't vote you off the island yet I actually had an opportunity arise myself today over lunch that would be a pretty big step up but yet another transition to a new field ( Biopolymer/chemical engineering and production) that I know almost nothing about. Having said that it's an IS job so the principles are mostly the same regardless of industry.

It is still a weird feeling, but I felt like it was one of those situations where it will define my career. If I didn't take it, it felt like I would basically be going down a short dead end path where this opens up so many new roads.uwmcscott wrote:How was week 2? I have so many things I need to do and so little time, but it is interesting and they are giving me a lot of leeway to make things happen in my vision so I hope it works.
I think the people are seeing my enthusiasm and just some of the little things I am fixing and at least they seem on board.
The big boss liked my plan to add about 10 more positions. It is kind of a good thing that the changeover happened now. I need a long weekend to get some work done without being interrupted constantly.
I keep getting requests for my old role in engineering which is going to get a little annoying...

Now the real fun is beginning.
I got COVID last week from someone at work, symptomatic starting Friday, tested positive Sunday. (Feeling fine, but need to stay at home until Tuesday with kids and working from home is not as easy when you rely on information and everyone you interface with is also working from home due to positive tests too)
We've had it run through now half dozen of the folks, including positions where we have little to no backup due to poor planning by previous regime, haven't had a chance to implement cross training like I am hoping to.

It´s good you´re not feeling bad. Hope you get through it as quiclky as possible - and that nobody at home gets it -, with no effects, and get back to bussines.honyock wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 3:30 pm Now the real fun is beginning.

I drove to HQ to turn in all my stuff today, on to my new gig on Jan 24. I would wager that right now almost half of my entire division has COVID. Most people are not sick enough to need medical intervention, but it certainly disrupts the workplace as people have to quarantine, and some of them are getting sick enough that they can't do their jobs. Extreme fatigue seems pretty common. My oldest son just got over it, and I was sick with identical symptoms a few days prior to him although I tested negative 3X where he tested positive right away.honyock wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 3:30 pm Now the real fun is beginning.

I can say that having just left a job in healthcare, we set a new record for COVID specific hospitalizations again on Wednesday this week with the highest number since the beginning of the pandemic. So even though the latest variant is less severe overall, it is exponentially more transmissable - and you can still get critically ill from omnicron. So the sheer numbers are pretty overwhelming. We will get through it but it's getting worse before it gets better as the hospitalizations generally lag a few weeks behind the peak of infection - which we still haven't reached either. Overflow/field hospital planning is already in motion here in WI.

Worked a midshift for 1st time since probably 2008. That is something I never thought I'd do again, especially with a 1 hour nap at 330 to prep...
