How ironic....that the one that was considered the quiet, reserved, peaceful one should go first.

Just wait and see, I'll bet that Keef will outlive every one of his bandmates, the surviving members of The Beatles, and half the rock stars from the 70s and 80s.

I suspect this is the end of the Stones. He was the only drummer for them. And even if they get the best impersonator around, it won't sound the same.
And I will always love the "I'm not your drummer, you're my f&$%@€g singer!" story.
RIP to a true gent, and a hell of a drummer.

I think he already ticked that one off.
Oh I don't think this is going to stop the commercial juggernaut that is the Rolling Stones. I had heard that they were planning a tour, but Watts would not be touring with them, due to health problems, so they probably already have a replacement.Rollin Hand wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 5:11 pm I suspect this is the end of the Stones. They are a merchandising machine...I'm sure their 'agents' are already planning the Charlie Watts tribute tourMossman wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 9:03 pmOh I don't think this is going to stop the commercial juggernaut that is the Rolling Stones. It's sad but also amazing he was playing as long as he did. The covid took one more persons last good year.
There have been plenty of bands using the same name with only (1) original member and quite often not a person considered significant. So yeah the tour will probably go on because many folks just don't keep up.

He certainly outlives most of the grunge eratoomanycats wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 3:57 pm Just wait and see, I'll bet that Keef will outlive every one of his bandmates, the surviving members of The Beatles, and half the rock stars from the 70s and 80s.

That's kind of nit picking, Ronny Wood has been there a very long time. Wyman was with them a long time too. Charlie wasn't the original drummer either was he? Some of the bands from way back, that are still touring have 1 original member if, even that. Stones lasted a lot longer and steadier than probably any other band out there.

That's where all the song royalties go anyway. The other guys just get paid for touring and merchandising, albeit quite handsomelyRollin Hand wrote: ↑Fri Aug 27, 2021 4:39 pmWell, Charlie's gone, Wyman quit, Woody isn't an original, so all that remains from the old days are the Glimmer Twins.

Not really nitpicking, though I concede that Woody's been there forever, and it's impossible to imagine anyone else in there -- the fit is perfect.mozz wrote: ↑Fri Aug 27, 2021 5:17 pm That's kind of nit picking, Ronny Wood has been there a very long time. I suspect they will do the sates they booked with the substitute drummer (there are a lot of penalties for cancelling big shows, hence Axl/DC), and then reevaluate.
But then, I didn't see how ZZ Top could continue without Dusty and...well it took them a week to get back on the horse.
There will be a lot of this over the next few years, nethinks. A lot of heroes are getting very, very old.

I think with ZZ, the guy was a roadie or tech and he probably knew exactly how each song was played out etc. Also as you said a lot of this will be happening in the coming years. I read the obits each day and try to see trends, but I'm still here. Trying to clean up the garage is a big enough task for me.
