I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving day. Stay safe and enjoy and much as you can. I know these are trying times for many. Let's hope starting today it gets better.

Used to be my favorite holiday, but not this year. Our normal gathering of around 30 is down to just the 4 of us. I don’t even know how to cook such small proportions! Vaccine or not, I am going back to normal in 2021. I have had enough of this not living your life so you can slightly improve your odds of staying alive. It’s a shit trade off.

I am down to 4 this year. It's not because of the circumstances these days but just not much family left. More and more my family is becoming my biker bros and sisters. We will have over my MIL and her significant other. My BIL, his wife and son decided enough of being at home and are headed to Sarasota Beach for a long weekend. That just leaves the 4 of us. I am cooking as I type. Turkey is in the oven and everything else staged and ready to begin. Traditional meal, Butterball, mashed taters, green bean casserole, gravy, cranberry sauce and yeast rolls. I enjoy cooking.Chocol8 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 26, 2020 8:30 am Used to be my favorite holiday, but not this year. Our normal gathering of around 30 is down to just the 4 of us. Friday a few from the biker family will be coming by for a seafood fest.

Thanks Jeff and happy turkey day to all as well. We too have decided to keep it small and not travel this year, mostly for the safety of our parents who are I their 80s and more vulnerable. My wife is a teacher and back in school every day and my skits are also at school every other day so who knows if any of of have the bug in our system. We will do a zoom call with both grandmas and grandpas and be thankful we can still do that.
Also have a traditional meal planned, my son is baking a pumpkin pie right now and rhe turkey will go in shortly after. Green bean casserole, mashed potatos, stuffing of course too, and we always have crescent rolls too ( the pre made Pillsbury type, wife’s family tradition ). We also make my Late Grandmothers cranberry relish which is basically fresh cranberries and oranges finely chopped with sugar.
One odd pandemic related article I read today is that apparently there was a shortage of small turkeys this year. That was actually the case at my regular grocery store too, the smallest one I could find was about 19 lbs! So lots of leftovers on the horizon!

'Tough year for me, but do-able. My immediate family consists of the people who receive services from our agency (many considered high-risk), my co-workers and a few close friends. No drop-ins are allowed at the group homes, but I'll do a few socially-distanced drive-by hellos from their driveways.
I'm sure that there will be video chats with the other Larons in the Northwest as well (I prefer to keep a few mountain ranges between us. Ha).
I'm taking advantage of today's pause to build a new sled (2020 model in upper right) and play some guitar while Big Momma works on her quilt. I'll be checking in to see how this thread is rolling, too.
Last nightone of the fellas I work with sent me a facebook video of him dancing in a turkey suit. Here's a screen shot.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Just me and our dog "Buddy" home this year.
Wife had to fly to Europe last week BOTH her parents aged 79, came down with Pneumonia and were in the hospital for over two weeks. She's just worried given their ages but today she told me they've turned the corner!
BTW...CDC issued a new "Directive"...if you want to really get together with friends and family this year you should do it outside and be like Pilgrims.
LOL!

Darn.. forgot about the turkey suit I have somewhere in the garage (freebie at a yard sale), did not think of digging for it.
Saw plenty of real turkeys this morning, I mean real ones, with feathers and all, on a dog walk drive.
Dinner for two, at 5:30 - 6:00. Small turkey went in slow cooker a half-hour ago.
Hang in there, all.

The other farm cats didn’t super love him but the chickens thought he was alright so he became a chicken.

Very glad to hear that your in-laws health is improving! Hope you and Buddy have a good day home together, does he play bass by chance?LightWingStudios wrote: ↑Thu Nov 26, 2020 12:20 pm Happy Thanksgiving to all!

We are trying to be as traditional as we can. No whole turkey, just a breast cooking sous vide. Stuffing will cook sans bird in the oven. There will be mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, corn bread, and an attempt at gravy without bird drippings.
On the plus side, the turkey will be tender and juicy, far superior to oven roasted poultry. The downside is mostly not seeing family, but my parents are older and between them, I think they check off just about every risk factor. Not worth killing your parents over dinner when a vaccine is only a few months away. Actually...now that I think of it, maybe we should go visit my mother-in-law!

I was wondering if someone would catch it..!
A recent picture from a village life re-enactment called "Plymoth Plantation", near, you guessed it, Plymouth MA.
It is a (for-profit) fun place, you can actually carry a conversation with folks in character, you get tales of missing the old country, worries about family members left behind, scarcity of food, etc.
In modern-day Plymouth proper, every once in a while, construction works reveal a burial. The story goes that settlers kept burials secret so as not to let the natives know how high their losses were.
The whole enterprise very, very, barely made it. PBS had a great series on the venture.

We had ours a few weeks ago... but to my USA brothers, happy Thanksgiving.
I hope you all get stuffed

Well, the first-time slow cooker recipe, turkey breast plus dry apricots, dry cranberries, maple syrup, brandy (was sherry) and a bit of water came out fabulous!
Six hours on low, with a short bit on high in the middle.
Spouse bought a slightly spendy Russian River Pinot, but it was worth the match with the turkey above.
If there is a ample supply of turkey in the stores, going forward, I want more of that.

A belated Happy Thanksgiving to All!
I spent the evening meal with a buddy I met some years ago, his mom, her sister and his girlfriend. My pal and his mom and aunt are all from Jersey, moved here years ago. His GF is a Southern Belle. They are all good cooks, and his GF's mom chipped in too. So you can bet your last dollar I ate like a doggone King! And they sent me home a couple of plates of leftovers that total around 4 lbs. Good times.
