Influential in getting folk music some attention, at the time.
Wild dude as well!

" As a collector of blues records he had already been corresponding with the noted blues record aficionado James McKune, He now also began seriously collecting old hillbilly music records from junk dealers and stores which were going out of business and even appeared as a guest on a folk music radio show hosted by poet Jack Spicer"

More on the above Wikipedia article.
The other farm cats didn’t super love him but the chickens thought he was alright so he became a chicken.

I just saw this and saw Jack Spicer and was instantly reminded about a cartoon my son watched when he was 5 or so. It was xaulin showdown and it had a bad guy named that. The only thing I knew about it is the name and he just liked saying it. Over and over. Like a mantra. Jack Spicerrrr. Jack spicerrr. Yes he was a weird kid. :)
So I guess in a way I heard of jack. I wonder if that's where they got the name?

Jack Spicer (voiced by Danny Cooksey) – The Xiaolin Warriors' first nemesis. Jack Spicer is notable for his robotic engineering, long rants, overuse of the word "evil" and his repetitive self-proclamation of "evil boy genius". He is responsible for releasing Wuya from the puzzle box that Grand Master Dashi locked her in, and aids her in finding Shen Gong Wu to conquer the world. Jack has aided the Xiaolin Warriors on occasion, and does show occasional leanings toward good.
