Some new pickup ideas

Tried a few new things recently, interested to hear feedback on how they turned out.

A tapped foil p94 set

A tele bass pickup with fat musicman magnets

A strat set with open covers/beauty rings (they dont make these tall enough by the way). They make them for a bobbin height of roughly .350" but standard strat bobbins are closer to .450". So I had to get creative without remaking 3 new bobbins.

And I dont rewind these very often. Just goes to show that a $100 jag pickup can fail just like any other jag pickup. It happens.

I'm not sure, I don't get to try anything. I made them for customers.

Ha, I just forgot to put the bobbin in the picture. The connection for the coil to ground eyelet broke so it needed a full rewind. There really needs to be a recess for the wraps to sit in when wrapped around the eyelet so it cant get broken off so easily.

The foil P90s and the Strat set are works of art. I want to install them in several guitars for the looks alone! Kudos - Well Done!

Agree, that or an "excess early wind reservoir" that can be unwound when that part of the coil breaks.

Agree, that or an "excess early wind reservoir" that can be unwound when that part of the coil breaks.

That would be nice and is actually a good idea to leave some excess to repair the start if need be.

I should note that a p90 can only be tapped, not split.
We tend to associate the two but they are completely different.

I like the look of all of those. The strat set reminds me of Brian May's own pickups (not sure if they look exactly like that, just going from memory).

For customers. I think I've only made about 2 pickups for myself in 6ish years. I think you've been doing it longer than me so im assuming you've had the chance to make stuff for yourself? Ill get there one day!

The strat with covers are nothing new, just not that common. Those covers are like 10 bucks a piece but hey, I didnt pay for them.

The tapped p94 is new. I think i did full 12k and tapped at 8k. I did some tapped jazzmaster pickups recently as well. I find the extra eyelet works fine in one of the corners on the opposite end of the pickup.

I've only had a couple bareknuckle pickups pass through my hands. Kinda surprised they don't have a channel next to the eyelet for the wire to sit in to keep it protected.
