Had another rehearsal last weekend. We had recordings so we could go over my "greatest hits" it was a few "why did i do that?" I knew that. A few others were ones that I thought were auto pilot type songs i didnt dig into too deeply. Big issue on a few I went early on the change during the solo because it really sounded like the solo lead me there. You know when you hear it change its tonal center as it moved to the IV or V.
Even when I changed to the IV the count seemed wrong but I could hear him leading to it.
So it's memorizing more structure and the bars count. Also the drummer and the guitar are giving me more signals, both visual and audible for some changes.
Actually I didn't get as much practice time in before our get together because I offered to use my rehersal space. It hasn't been used since covid and my retirement. Completely dusty and disorganized whole family dumping ground and tons of junk from My office. Made it much more convenient for everybody in clouding the drummer who had the big drive but nobody had to setup drums or pa. It was good to get "My space" back.

Next gig is this Sat. I'll be going in tired after a full day volunteering at my watrgarden club. So we will see. Hopefully a crowd shows up this time.

Welp. A few more practices and a coupe more gigs and things are going well. Still make a few brain farts but the groove is good. We are getting our signals down. Strung a few songs together in a nice overlapping odd matching start and end notes.
Still deciding best way to document. My tiny crib sheet notes just isn't enough.
We added new songs but then they didn't decide the new set list till 2 days before the show. Made it very tough to get my notes in order. Wasted most of today getting the easiest songs into setlist helper. The rest of the songs probably don't exist unless I write them up so they will be tougher.
The guitarist did alot of this work when he learned them then HE THREW THEM AWAY!! ARGHH!
Anyway making notes and hints and reminders. Many based on the hints you guys mentioned.
This sat its an afternoon gig with a car show at the restaurant. The job is getting to the point of being on auto pilot and keeping a groove. Except when it isn't. :)

Actually my previous bass player came to see me. He heard me bitching about all the gotchas and twists and turns. I was afraid he was going to show up at the audition and snag it as I know he knows them. He told m e I was right and the songs have a rediculous number of gotchas. Almost like a game of troll the new guy. He liked the sound and the groove. He noticed some of the dynamics I added recently that I didn't catch at first while too busy learning. I switch from a very defined type line to a very jazzy background type groove I'm very proud of. He said he's glad he dind get stuck with it. It's too much work. :) and he's a bass player for 5 years playing pickup bands 5 nights a week an making randos sound good.
