That's cool... Now if you could make one that doesn't sound like a tin can, that would be great. It would be cool to use that sound once or twice, but I don't think it'll be too long before that sound starts to get old. I had a friend once who had a Fernandes Sustainer in an Epiphone G-400 (SG). He was an electronics engineer and he couldn't figure out how to wire it properly. He contacted Fernandes and they wouldn't tell him how to do it, or send him a diagram or schematic, and it was the early days of the internet... He offered to sell me that guitar for $200, and he let me keep it for a couple of weeks to see if I liked it. The sustainer worked, but I guess it didn't work as well as it should have. But still, it was fun to mess around with... You could get Ebow-like effects out of it, but once the novelty wore off, I lost interest... And I also learned that SGs weren't for me. Which is just as well, because my friend changed his mind about selling it to me for so cheap.

I have a guitar with a genuine Sustainer in it, and I use it enough to justify keeping the parts on hand to mod other guitars. As for sounding like an amplified swarm of bees, I can fix that. When I record something using the sustainer, I almost always use it as a pad or other heavily effects laden background layer/noise. I may give this a shot. I'll report back iff'n I do.

Interesting but it sounded pretty crappy. I still prefer the sustain from getting close to a cranked amp. Nothing quite like it.
