MDF stand

Did this as a prototype to see if I could get something that looked reasonable and worked, with the intention of getting some oak and maple later,

Turns out that although I managed to make something that isn't shocking, I'm also lacking the skills, and tools, to do anything that could stand there 'naked' so paint and MDF it will remain!

Nice! I would suggest fabric bumpers over any rubber, but painted MDF works well for this application.

On the hooks?

I've put felt bumpers for the back of the guitar bodies

Ahh, I couldn’t tell on my phone. Rubber can do bad things to the finish sometimes, so I go with cotton or wool usually.

Looks good! I don't understand how you can cut and shape MDF, but not wood. I use the same tools for each material, myself.

Yes, but the grain of that MDF is soooooo much easier to work with 8-)
And, it paints real nice!

Is the shelf with the hooks screwed into it made of MDF also?
My only concern is whether there is enough material left after installing the hook to hold your average Agile AL safely.
Looks good though, I like the design.

rrobbone You can't just leave MDF raw, it has to be painted, so it also can be filled where my lack of tools shows up.

I'd also like to router the edges on a nice piece of oak, and don't have access to one at the moment.

When I am in a better position to get some tools, I'll probably have another go with some decent material.

stacks It is 100% MDF at present.

I'm keeping a close eye on the support as it was my concern also. I used 20mm MDF, and the guitar hooks are a 5mm bar. drilled with a slight down angle from the face, so the cantilever effect has more material at the back, and at the front where the pressure will be, the bras are also quite long, so spreading that load.

So far no sign of deviation, but I check every day!

I'm building an arcade machine out of the stuff, and it'll get a coat of Kils just before some nice semi-gloss black.

This was always supposed to be a prototype, so a quick sand, and some hammered finish gloss black and silver, to go with the office desks for me.

When I am a bit more free to go to a lumber yard, I may well pick up some nice wood and do it again in a natural finish.

Rough plans attached.

Build per plan, and then level off the bottom of the legs as the last operation, that way it is easier to get the angle at the bottom of the legs right.

Other parts used:

- Felt and chrome pads -

- Guitar hooks -

Unique design and well done. I've had some tried designs and they truly sucked. This really looks solid.

Very nice! You could even put a lamp at the top if you wanted!

Next one might have some nicer shaping to the top too, and I'll maybe add a hook under the top shelf for hanging cables or straps.

Thanks for the feedback guys :)

I've now picked up some Cherry and Maple to have a go at this with 'proper' wood,

Also waiting on a chunk of Atlantic Cedar to be cut for a body blank to have a go at my first guitar build!
