I did some experimentation with painting this weekend, because I want to do a kind of spatter/misting effect on the guitar I'm working on, and that's the kind of effect you kind of have to get right the first time (short of just painting it over and doing the whole thing again). Flicking paint from a toothbrush and using a small pump spray bottle look like the way to go. I tried flicking paint with my fingers or a stick or a dropper, but it was a little too blobby and unpredictable.

I think it's going to look pretty cool, but I'm still trying to get the stencil from my friend; I've been emailing her the vector file and for some reason it's not going through. Might have to do the USB stick handoff route.

Did another test piece today. Getting real close to the effect I want and learning a lot each time!

Heres my wussy "project". I got tired of losing cables AND figuring out what end goes where so I found these cable tags on amazon. They come in a package of 8 or 10 colors. Started with an A4 label template and made up a label with my name, email and phone number on 1 side and a big number on the other. 30 test prints, 3 printers and 2 different test word processors later it worked. They stick well but not too sticky, the laser printing doesn't smear and they are a tough plastic.
I figure it will at least keep honest people honest and in the mean time the singer can call out "turn up purple 4".
It's about the biggest project I seem to have time for between essential working and my wife's project.

Put new GFS Earl Slick 56 pup set (79$ shipped) in my last unused strat body and neck I got a while ago. Put review opinion in New Gear thread. ...I like them a lot. Scratches my itch for an early 50's punchy but clean piano tone strat set. There are notes sustaining that sound very much like a piano once I got heights where I want. I'm sure I'll tweek heights a little more as set up and pups settle in.
43 awg, A5, formvar....not ice picky at all. This body with similar neck had sounded too bright with Klein 59 pup set in it earlier. This set has tamed highs I think due to 43awg wire. Still punchy, round, clean. I'm vey pleased with these.

The neck is 7.25 radius from Allparts with vintage sized frets...small, narrow. But i like them. Reminds me of my first strat with vintage neck that I played to death. I can feel wood behind the strings, more.

New fender bone nut, did take the time to get slots right for correct tuning at first fret.
New vintage tuners from Stratosphere. Cheap and good.
Used old CV 50's pickguard. Happy with way it matches natural body.

Used a "Custom Shop" ( MIJ non-fender after market ) bridge/trem that is very nice. Great trem-arm fit, no wobble. Got on ebay. 2-7/32 spacing.

Did full setup. Nut slot heights are perfect with intonation, open, 12th, and first fret, all measure true.
4/64ths action.

I did a neck swap on my purple Strat. I also needed to find a new home for the old neck so I ordered something a little different for it. I did a little mockup of how the new one might look. There wasn't a pearloid option for the top so I used quilt maple for the mockup.

I got the neck from a guy on CL. It took a couple months to actually get it. The first time I went to pick it up, he called me while I was on my way and told me he had to go to the ER because his brain tumor was acting up. I didn’t hear back from him and the ad was deleted. A few weeks later the ad popped back up and I was able to get it. He was happy that I got it because he felt bad about the first time we tried to meet up. He said he got it on eBay. It was unfinished and the nut slot wasn’t complete when I got it. Not bad for $20. Here’s a better pic of the neck.

I have an Agile PS900 that I bought from a member here that I rarely play. I like the guitar. but seems like I am always playing either my AL 3200 my Studio LP or my strat style SX that I modified. Someone down the line had done the baking soda/super glue trick on the nut and it worked well but I had never changed it out. Well last night while looking for something in my parts I came across a Tusq XL that with a bit of sanding will work well in my PS900. So I dig a little deeper and came up with a SD "59" neck and a "JB" bridge pup only thing is that the "59" is a zebra and the "JB" is black I had these in my Al 3010 for awhile. So I'm changing out the nut and the pups and I had a set of gold strap locks from GF on it. Getting ready to order a set of locking machines for it when I get it all together I'll do a good set-up on it and hopefully we will bond.

Amazed to find a 3/4" cap

NIce!
Dont sweat the pickup colors dont match; it will look CUSTOM!

I have a used white Duncan Custom HB (from a member here) in the bridge of my Jackson Dinky with the 2 black stock single coils, and a Zebra GM 57' Classsic bridge with a creme Dimarzio PAF Pro in the neck of my Ibanez AS73 semi hollow.

They sound good....
I dont really prefer the mismatch, I just dont care.

Damn. I forgot the picture. They are a slick way to label. Its already helped me a few times figure ends out. I can also write the length to figure out what cable. Amazing how a 25 ft mic cable is almost never long enough for distance on even a small stage but 35 is just right.

I finally -- FINALLY -- had time to set the intonation on the 5150 copy. Now I just need to find time to put on the new tuners. Perhaps I should have done that first, but I badly wanted to hear it intonated.

It was worth the wait.

Hopefully I will have some time in a couple of weeks to do the tuners....oh, and a NGD for something else. ;)

The electronics aren't hooked up yet, the action needs a lot of adjusting, and the plastics aren't on it yet, but it's feeling good!

Thank you! I'm going to do an NGD post when I get it more or less finished up (which will probably be another six months at the rate I work, ha ha).

Full editor and preview, then attachments, add files, then place inline. I'm sure there is a drag and drop option but i end up having photos in all sorts of folders and drag and drop is a pain.

Finally got off my lazy err....... backside and finished my PS900 today new Tusq XL nut, new Grover locking machines, Seymour Duncan 59 in the bridge and JB in the neck and a fresh set-up. The "59" is black and the "JB" is a zebra don't look bad and sounds and plays awesome. There was nothing wrong with the OME machines but since I already had the pups and nut I thought I'd splurge and go with new lockers. I also had a bunch of copper shielding tape so I put it in the cavities. The wiring had been worked on and the solder joints looked like they had been globed on however it worked fine but since I was swapping out the pups already I took all the electronics out then removed the old solder (thanks solder wick) and rewired it. I must say it came out great and is now a PS900 Beast and here's some pictures.

I've been a bit scarce here lately being involved in a bunch of projects, both home types and music. Here is what I can remember of the last 4 weeks of what's been 'on my bench':
- Leveled & crowned the frets above the 13th, polished all frets, fixed a chip in the rosewood bridge, gently cleaned and did some forensics to ascertain this is a 1949 Gibson ES125, made between July and December. She sounds and plays like a dream. The solid spruce top is delightful:
20190127_114230.jpg
- Built a large pedalboard (#3) w/ a rack and regulated-filtered 9vDC to 18vDC supply. As you can see, i bought my analog DoD R-880 dual delay (rare SAD512D magic chip) and the Ibanez DM500 Digital Delay (Neil Giraldo's secret weapon) out of mothballs:
Pedal Board 3.jpg
- Bought the Mid's control from inside to the face panel, added a cathode bias switch for 6L6 or 6V6 (running the tubes at a beautiful 88%) and added a switch to remove the negative feedback so it can sound like a Tweed Deluxe, or Tweed Bassman, or early Bluesbreaker. 13w using 6V6 and 20 using 6L6. Very harmonic and loud.
AMI-20 wMid.jpg
- Pretty much did this same for my AMI Blonde, except the cathode bias switch is EL84 (Vox) and 6V6 (Supro). Swapped the 12" Celestion Super Lead 80 for a 12" Vox Blue Dog. Beatles and Petty for days...
AMI Blonde Upgrade.jpg
- Replaced all the 1974 electrolytic capacitors in this QSB-II Reverb / Tremolo effect, which bought it back to life:
Marlboro QSB-II.jpg
- Going through old music pics (will post some on a separate thread).
