A little help on posting & collaborating recodrings?

Looking for some help from our seasoned recording / music posting peps here, like @Narsh , @Mossman , @deeaa, @doc-knapp , @sabasgr68 and anyone else I failed to mention who has experience:

1.) Where on the internet can I post completed cover music for sharing? I have used SoundCloud, but they nix any covers.

2.) Internet place to share tracks and stems, when collaborating? I record at 48KHz 32 bit-floating and will be sending background mixes to my friends and receiving back a handful of tracks. I don't see an immediate need for exchanging full projects, but if you have knowledge - I am listening.

3.) A place to post video of covers? I've been leary on posting to YouTube, because of strict and efficient copyright actions they take.

4.) Other advice on using the internet for your recorded music or videos, you wished you had know earlier?

Background: I have been immersing myself with Presonus Studio One 5 Professional, EZ Drummer 2 and reengaging with being an artist vs. the focus on repairing, building, designing, etc. The method I am choosing is digging up originals from the past and revamping them (some being recorded for the first time) and doing some covers to encourage some of my friends to being themselves out of mothballs. One of my oldest and dearest friend in PA really needs this, as he has been rudderless since his wife died horribly of cancer in September 2019.

I have a few song ideas which I'll engage after I get my playing in a more natural state and I've achieved more proficiency with my DAW and EX Drummer 2. Having production and engineering experience from the 80's and 90's means I have a short learning curve on getting the song and sound 'right' before going to 'print' (I so badly want to say 'going to tape' here). However, it presents some re-learning as well and on some subjects (ahem... Melodyne) the learning curve is steep.

And, when I have some of my excellent friends back on track. Who knows, maybe an AGF collaboration?

I look forward to everyone's replies!

From my really little experience:

1.) Where on the internet can I post completed cover music for sharing?

I use soundcloud too, but as you´ve said, there are some limitations regarding covers. Maybe this could help you; from those mentioned there, the other one I´ve signed up to, but haven´t used yet, is chirbit.

https://www.blogwaping.com/2020/08/audi ... sites.html

2.) Internet place to share tracks and stems, when collaborating?

Maybe some of the sites mentioned on the link above could be used for this.

3.) A place to post video of covers?

YT is getting annoying about it, so, even though I don´t upload that many videos, the other site I use is Vimeo (free account). I have uploaded just one video there, but I could use the name of the song without trouble.

4.) Other advice on using the internet for your recorded music or videos, you wished you had know earlier?

Same as you, I´m still looking for good advices on that topic.

It´s so great that you want to start the "artist" phase again, including draggin´ some of your friends with you on that road. Sorry for your widowed friend, I think this could do him well, all the more if is it with close friends accompanying him.

An AGF collaboration always sounds good!

Go ahead, amigo, looking forward to hear your originals and your covers!

PS: I´ll be watching this post, as I could use the info given to you as well, from the really seasoned experts you mentioned, and some others (@RockYoWorld and @belleswell come to mind as of now; maybe I remember some others later.)

My experience with recording is by no means extensive. I'm just getting my feet wet too, but I can tell you I've had problems with both Soundcloud and YouTube when it comes to covers. Every cover I've uploaded to either platform has been blocked the second the upload finished. I originally thought it was because I used the actual original tracks (minus the bass track) for my backing tracks, but lots of other people seem to get away with that, or posting the original song, or whole album unaltered, so I don't know. Maybe they were posted before YouTube went copyright nuts and they haven't gotten around to them yet.

Anyway, I use BitChute as a video hosting site. I've tried a few other video platforms, but BitChute is the simplest to use, and so far they haven't hassled me about copyright. It doesn't seem to handle 1080 very well, but hey, it's free, and I think 720 is good enough for a home-made music video. :) Also, you're not limited to how many videos you can upload. On some of these sites (like Vimeo) you can only upload so much content before you have to pay. BitChute is trying to position itself as a YouTube alternative, so that model wouldn't work very well.

I haven't even thought about a Soundcloud alternative, but if you want to just share files with your collaborators, I would use Dropbox.

Not much to add if anything....

I use Dropbox pretty extensively for moving files these days, but also google drive now and then.

Original music I post to Spotify etc and also YouTube, but covers only to YouTube. I haven't had any issues with covers on YT. I just don't monetize them and don't claim anything, just list whose is it originally and it's been fine. Sometimes I post stuff direct to Facebook as well, or even Insta, I think I put one song direct to TikTok even as a test.

Never used SoundCloud etc much at all.

This is the last cover I've uploaded to YT, our band room recording of Hurt...it's been nearly a year though.

I’ve never had any issues posting covers on YouTube, and I have two subscribers, so I’m willing to risk some copyright strikes.

Here’s a good video explaining:

I am really terrible at recording period as many times that I have been recorded when the record button is pressed I lose it don't know why but I know I'm in for a bunch of retakes. I have used Sound Cloud and never have had a problem not to say I may be restricted at any time. It may be we are so bad it doesn't matter because no one can recognize it. :?:

Here's a CSNY cover we have on SC

@deeaa : What happened to your AGF collaborator, Brainmatter? I don't see him here anymore.

Maybe he didn't migrate. We sometimes chat but I gather he's been busy with stuff other than music.

Hey guys sorry been away. Left arm is totally jacked and may need surgery. Haven't been able to play in weeks. MRI is on Tues so wish me luck.

Depending on that Id totally be down for a collaboration!

As for where to post. I posted my previous albums on Bandcamp. I believe you can post videos as well. Outside of that SoundCloud and YouTube when Im lazy.

@Narsh so sorry, Enrique. Hope it isn´t anything real serious, and you get to use your arm in full mode again, not only for playing guitar, but for everything, man. I´ll be praying...

I often ask myself the same question. I´m always careful with how I use my arms and hands.

If you're looking to collaborate with people privately, I'd suggest using a cloud storage service such as Google Drive or Dropbox. I know Dropbox is used by many people, but I prefer Google Drive since they give you more storage for free and the premium plans were much cheaper than Dropbox the last time I compared a couple years ago.

As for sharing your "finished" work to a larger audience, anything can work for the originals. I wish I could give you more advice on covers. I am in the cover band scene locally and the last year has been a digital genocide of cover videos for my friends on Facebook and YouTube. Thankfully, the promo videos for my band have not been taken down by YouTube, but I think it's also because we don't label it as a song of any sort and that the clips of songs are just used in the promotional video.

Thanks fellas, it's my left shoulder not my hand thank goodness. It's a weight lifting injury. Totally my fault for doing military presses @ 225lbs. I'm two surgeries in on the right one. Luckily they are not a big deal.

That’s interesting, because I see people doing covers on You Tube all of the time. Some, like the REO Brothers, appear to be making a living off of it. Many that I come across use the actual recording as a backing track. That sucks if they’re cracking down on things like that now.

I am in learn, then master mode with Studio One 5 Pro and in getting my vocal, drumming & writing chops back in form. After that, I'd be up for the challenge on co-writing / producing with you. Like others pointed out, you are an excellent player - so it would be a stretch for me , but I am up for the challenge!

I love collaborating with folks, no matter what skill level there is always the difference in perspective and approach to an idea. Not saying I'm very skilled. I think I have a long way to go and much much to learn. I honestly have no idea what I'm doing - usually I take the EVH approach and fall down the stairs trying to land on my feet the best I can. LOL, you guys don't hear the takes that don't make it to the tunes.

Killer cover! You have a great voice. I have a friend in Media, Pennsylvania (USA) who is your bass player's doppleganger!

All involved: I checked out bitchute and did not care for what I saw.

Here's Wikipedia's take: BitChute is a video hosting service known for accommodating far-right individuals and conspiracy theorists, and for hosting hateful content.[a] The platform was created in 2017 to allow video uploaders to avoid content rules enforcement on YouTube,[14] and some creators who have been banned from YouTube or had their channels barred from receiving advertising revenue ("demonetised") have migrated to BitChute.[1]

Getting over a "reaction" to an Antibiotic I was taking for an infection in my jaw. How I got it
I have no farking idea. Jaw is fine...woke up this AM to THIS! What a mess. Soaked both my
hands in hot water for an hour and hit them twice with moisturizer over the next hour. Then
they just started bubbling up layers and layers of dead skin and peeling like crazy. Feel a bit
tender with the new skin exposed but I suspect they'll be fine in three or four days.

After that I'd be open to swappin' some licks. :)
