A different kind of build thread.. I'll try and add more as I go.
Now that I'll be taking a hiatus from pickup making I should get more done on this. These first few posts is what I've accomplished in the last year or so.

I've always wanted a separate studio space I could play guitar or drums in so I started this back in late 2019.
I first had to clear a little space in the woods. I own about an acre of woods so I wanted to use a littlebit of that space instead of using a big spot in my backyard.

Then I added in some material and did a rough level. I had to hand chop all that wood. I did have someone help take out a few stumps though.

Now that I have a rough level, it was time to set some posts in 2' of concrete. I didn't want this sitting on the ground so its roughly gonna be 2' off the ground. I wanted space to get under it easily to insulate as well.
6x6 posts. Shed is going to be 14x32

I unfortunately didn't have the time to build it myself so I hired someone and only got a few pics during the process as I was working.


Leveling the posts and placing the runners then floor joists.

Outside. The barn style door ain't gonna cut it so I'll be replacing that first. I also need to add a hand rail.

Electricity.
Pain in the arse. I had to dig 18" down and it was about a 100' run from my house to the bridge.

I need to take some more pics of the inside but as far as the outside I have tyvek up and will add siding hopefully this spring.
Inside I've insulated the first floor and have all my outlets installed. I'm using safe and sound rockwool insulation and I got 60 sheets of 5/8" drywall ready to go up too.
For a/c heat I have an 18k btu mini split that I need to install.

I just finished putting in the floor joists for the 2nd floor.
I'll get some pics of this and of the inside next time I'm out there.

I figured trying to get a barn style door to keep sound inside was gonna be tough!

Looks nice. For that size (easier than messing with a house) I would consider dedicated grounds to each circuit. Make sure you use florescent lights (I kid).

That looks great! I built a new shed last year, but much smaller and more for general storage. It is nice to be able to get some crap out of the house. Your studio shed looks awesome!

Yep.
I ran 220 from my house, 60A total new breaker from my house and divided the shed into 3 20A circuits. 1 for each long wall and 1 dedicated for the a/c.
A new ground was driven into the ground for the entire circuit.

Incredible. I'm so jealous of you guys with the space. At some point over the next few years we will move and I'll find someplace with an acre or two and build a workshop/music shed. Heck even my work-from-home desk is tucked in a little spare bedroom nook.

The sheetrock can be put up with a sound deadening caulking compound gooped up each stud, called Green Glue. It's effective. There are videos about using it.

I've heard a bit about this. I find it very hard to believe you need glue to keep the sound from escaping tightly screwed drywall. Is it really that important?

Yes, I have an 18k btu mini split and a dedicated 220 circuit for it all wired up. Just need to install it.

I read that as well but it's pretty costly.
I have 3 solutions so far for sound deadening.

1st. I bought 5/8" drywall and enough to put 2 layers on the walls. Standard is 1/2" so im banking on more mass to help.
2nd. I'm using rockwool safe and sound insulation. Much better than fiberglass insulation for sound deadening purposes.
3rd. I've added a layer of moving blankets over the insulation, stapled to the studs. This should add another layer of sound protection while also adding a buffer between the drywall and the studs, similar to what green glue does.
