I was a fan of these because of Phil X doing demos at Fretted Americana with these pedals into their Evil Robot. So when I found one at a good price, I grabbed it. Apparently two days ago JHS made a video of a Bad Monkey sounding like a Klon and prices jumped over night. I listed mine for hundreds less than everyone was asking and sold it near instantly. LOL

It's a decent tube screamer type pedal, and I genuinely like it more than the TS9 and TS808, but I always prefer super screamers.
Signa Drive being my #1 choice for this.

I had a Bad Monkey years ago. I am a Tube Screamer fan and it does a good job in that regard. In the end I just decided to always have a TS on the board. While I have had many different TS pedal models the two I have left are the TS808 Handwired and the mini. I have had the Turbos, 9's, 10's, 7's, tube king, etc. The 10's are going for big money now and I think I sold mine for $25 back in the day.

One of the things the Bad Monkey pedal does well is having a cool ass name, and pioneered a whole new artform .
Paid $25 for mine , gave it to my son who puts it to good use and we had a good laugh when i told him of the new Bad Monkey bubble .
I did make out on the Josh Homme inspired 'secret' Peavey Decade frenzy . I had one from a Goodwill auction, had cleaned the pots and added a speaker out jack so it was in good condition and sold it buy now , for a rare Win.

The Signa Drive is a great sounding pedal, being a little more relaxed on the mid hump (720Hz) and a bit more gain than the standard TS.

I sold my TS10 for $375 two years ago and built a clone with a few changes which made it better for me. I relaxed the mid-hump and added the ability to switch the clipping from standard symmetrical, open (IC clipping only) and asymmetrical. Love it for pushing Marshalls.

@andrewsrea It can have more gain. I feel like switching the diodes means that it can also sound more open and have less gain as an option too. I feel like it has less noise but it's not as if I measured it objectively.

I would argue your build qualifies as a super screamer. But I guess I don't know what the definition is other than having more clipping options and maybe an additional EQ control.

I've got the newer silver ts 7 with the extra overdrive switch. Adds versaility. I figured it covered the bad monkey extra kick iirc. Mostly I just use the gain built in to my vox vt40 as it covers alot.

Geesh, you guys had me looking for a Bad Monkey but when I saw what they are going for I decided I did not need one. Maybe I should get @andrewsrea build me a better Bad Monkey. I have my Bubbles Drive by FloridianFX and it is awesome.

I could do a Bad Monkey, or a 'Super Monkey,' which would just be the addition of the clipping diode selector: stock-open-crunch.

I still have and use FloridianFX's RAH clone, with an exquisite etched case, which I bought from John Pratte (Pratteman).

What is a Bubbles Drive?
