Tested today how does it work to use a cheap amp brake to make the amp quiet and run a line from there to Mooer Radar into PA. Works like a charm! Will have to start running a line to PA in practice sessions as well for more spread and less volume yet better clarity.

We're going to start calling you the Mad Scientist of AGF! You're always doing cool stuff with your equipment. Amp sounds good, initially reminded me of an AC/DC type sound. What kinda tone were you looking to get by using the brake?

Being a very simple plexi/2203 Marshall, a lot of the sound comes from the power tubes. It only starts to sound good and driven past 2 on master volume, but without a brake it'd be ear splitting loud already. So that's what it's for....just to enable playing with righteous tunes without 200dB.

It's very easily Back In Black type sound...but if you want true ACDC sound you have to use quite low a gain, but crank 3-4 of these way up... power amp drive.

And since the brake gives a DI out after power amp, all you need is to add a speaker emulation and you get the same tone direct to PA.

You can also use the Radar from a loop out/amp preamp out and also turn on power amp emulation but it's better with the real deal.

No need to mic the cab, and free to use any amp volume you like.

I couldn't be in The AGF Band, you definitely would be.

Ugh! There is a lot of talent and wisdom on this board.

I try crazy stuff like that but it never works. Well, it does until I tell somebody and they start panicking about "fire danger."

I use a Suhr RL-IR to do the same thing for a lot more money. It serves as a load box for the amp and then has 2 outputs.

One is clean and I feed that one to an old MosValve amp into a cab or two. This allows me to crank the amp and get full pre-amp and power tube goodness, but then control the volume to any level with the Suhr and the MosValve.

The other output has an IR loader which I can then send to a PA and or FRFR of choice.
