I was trying to resist this purchase. I found a review on YouTube and after digging deeper I saw that these were getting great reviews across the board. The only complaints I found were from those who didn’t think the pickup was hot enough and others who didn’t like the Badass bridge. I got it in 3 days. I ordered a pedal at the same time and shipping came to $58. I know they were charging $30 for up to 3 guitars, but those shipments were hanging up in customs for up to a month, so it appears Thomann found an alternative. It would have cost that for a domestic guitar shipment, so I didn’t really care.

Once tuned, it had fairly low action and no buzz. The nut slots need to be lowered slightly. No finish flaws and a little bit of grain shows. Fret ends are smooth, no high frets rattling the strings. Tuners are Kluson style with white tips.The fret board is quite nice. Dark chocolate colored with no blems. Amaranth? The A5 P90 sounds good. It’s a little bright, but it should be closer to the strings. Pickup measures at 7.05k. I actually like low output P90s. I think if just needs to be shimmed up closer. Fralin makes some shims that I ordered tonight. The pup has a vintage style braided lead. The control cavity is shielded with full sized Alpha pots. The bridge posts are not offset like a vintage Jr., so I don’t think a vintage stop bar bridge would work here. I only mention that since I’ve seen others bring that up. Nice medium profile neck. QC is WAY better than the first Bentons I tried years ago. Made in Indonesia.
If you’re thinking of pulling the trigger, it’s a no-brainer.

The time frames had nothing to do with customs. The rates were cheap because they were consolidating. They were consolidating by waiting weeks and weeks to build up orders.

Now they're not consolidating as much. So it moves faster, and it costs more.

Thanks for the info, I was trying to wait for a b-stock to show up again but they have a b-stock Mustang replica for $30 off the regular price so I guess that's that. Besides a few bucks off, the other advantage of buying a b-stock is that it's actually inspected prior to being listed so you know that the ones with the most egregious imperfections that would normally merit a return are weeded out.


As for the shim, [mention]manodano[/mention] had a great trick - cut your own from a cheap mousepad that has the thickness you're looking for.

Are you going to be winding a P90 for it or leave the the stock one alone?

I’ll leave this one alone for a while. I give P-90s a lot of leeway before determining they need a rewind. I’ve only met one P90 I didn’t like and it was in that black Chibson.

There's another alternative to those cheap bad ass type bridges made by Gotoh (GOTOH 510UB) but it's pricier, around $50-$55. I have one on an AD-2200 Reissue:

I put this bridge on my Firefly DC Junior to make up for the bridge posts being installed too far forward. I really like it.

For some reason, direct links to Amazon items can be problematic. I removed the "http" from their and now it should work.

Something else to consider is that these style of bridges are high and sometimes you won't be able to get the action low enough or the pickups high enough before the bridge studs bottom out on the anchors. That is not a problem with the Gotoh bridge as it is much thinner which is the reason I ended up buying it...

The one I linked to actually sits lower than the Badass style that's on the Harley Benton. I used both on some Epi Juniors I had.

Thanks, that's good to know as $13 shipped beats $50-$55 shipped every day of the week. They've got the dimensions in the listing so anyone considering one of these (and that would be me) should measure beforehand to make sure it works for your particular guitar.

FYI: The thickness on the Gotoh is about 10mm at the outside E strings as opposed to 12.8mm on the Musiclily one...

Nice! I've seen several video reviews of these on YT and they impressed me ... having said that, I'm waiting to buy a lefty Harley Benton SG (the cherry one, not the black), and since they occasionally have B-stocks on those, I'll wait for one to pop up and grab it then, but I think if I weren't looking for an SG, I'd grab the Jr. instead.
