PureSalem Tom Cat

This is weird. I bought this guitar new way back in 2014 from PureSalem, and in those days it was a steal ($499 shipped). Being a lot like a Guild S200 (which Guild doesn't make lefty), and with the rosewood, I just loved the look. But when I got it, I didn't care much for the neck feel, and I thought the tone was just meh. Yet I loved the look so much, it stayed around, just not getting played.

Today I took it out to consider maybe selling. I plugged in to check it out, and wow, just wow. My entire perception of this guitar is changed. Maybe it's because I played it through a different amp and pedals than before, but I like everything about it now. It plays like butter, so apparently I'm better at adjusting to different necks than I used to be. And the pickups sound great with just a little dirt and EQ. I played it for a couple hours before I realized I was just enjoying it too much. There's no way I'd sell it, and it will be in the rotation from here out.

If I had flipped it early because I didn't bond with it immediately, I would have missed out! I love this guitar now, and there's no way I could find its equal used. Shocking how much our opinions can change over time.

Very cool.

I had the same type of revelation playing my Valkyrie the other day because someone asked for a demo.

I played it, and played it some more, then some more after that, then left it out on the stand and played it a few more times, soon enough it was in the rotation.

I had to back out of selling it as I had a guy on the hook to buy it because I just like it too much (I won't mention that I paid $125 for it as a C stock and once I got rid of the roller TOM bridge it intonated perfectly well in the center of the post adjustment using a cheap Wilkinson style roller bridge.)
