Information from Washburn sketchy, made in 91/92, a total of 35 made, and only 12 in black.

Lovely guitar to play,

Washburn LA-604
They made 37 in 1991, 12 Black, 12 Red Rain, 12 Purple Rain and 1 multicolor kind of like the holoflash but not iridescent. I bought a red one when they came out and loved it, it was stolen in 2013. I have since acquired another red one after years of searching, and just found a purple one that was painted over with a horrid spraycan slate blue so i'm going to try to bring that one back to original finish. They are awesome guitars and I would love to find a black one and the multicolored one. Did you by chance get that from Eric Lindsey music?

Not sure how I missed this thread. I think I remember that guitar from Old AGF UrenragK . I liked it a lot over there, and just as much here. I am a fan of Washburn Guitars.

mikeswashburn , Welcome to AGF and I commend you for your quest to return a rare guitar to it's original finish. We love pictures here, and build threads etc, so don't be shy. : )

mikeswashburn I tracked mine down on Reverb and paid heavy.

My best friend had one, a black one, that too was stolen. I plan to give it to him for his 50th Birthday, but in the meantime I am very much enjoying it!!

Yes, via a friend in Florida as they would not ship direct to UK.

Thanks for the intel! I asked Washburn and they said they had no idea as they didn't keep records at that point!

I'd love to find another, as it's such a nice guitar to play, but I'm determined to surprise Jon for his 50th

That’s awesome I almost bought it from him the guy wanted &100 to ship it 3 hours away to me as I’m in southwestern Ohio and he is in north central. I seriously almost made the drive though. I’m glad you got it for your friend, I hope he enjoys it. I got my replacement when I was 50 as well, I guess it’s fate that he should get it for his big 50. To bad you couldn’t have gotten the one that was in the UK, he only wanted around $240 usd but he wouldn’t ship the the USA because of CITES regulations.

This seems to be the most knowledgeable spot for the LA Washburns. Any more info on them or any idea on any other models possibly in the LA lineup?

Very similar Washy to the 604 in Red Rain but with HSS pickup configuration and dot inlays are in a wavy pattern. Until finding out about the 604, I had never seen another guitar with the same body and headstock. I have never seen another like this one.

Reminds me of a Solar Solar AB1.6 FR CAR with an extra single coil in the middle position. Hard to believe it came out 30 years ago, design was way before its time.

No idea. This one does not have a model sticker at the neck heel like the others seem to. I might remove the neck and see if there is a stamp in the pocket or anything. I have never come across another like it until this thread and Washburn had no input at all. One guy on the Washburn fan page on Facebook mentioned it looked like an LA series but nobody else had any ideas. Seems very well built though, 600-S trem like my Washburn 333s and blows my old Washburn WG-228 out of the water.

It certainly looks like an LA604-R but the dot inlay is different, and the LA604's are HSH
