A 2CV racing series in the U.K.

https://2cvracing.org.uk/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-4jrWUptmA Notes - I almost got killed in a 2CV, as an ass blew a stop sign in front of my friend's 2CV - car was originally a concept car, a vehicle for hunters, - extremely simple, yet with surprisingly great road worthiness. - the Dutch a...

Re: Febreze

There was a common farmhouse style where families used to live right next to, or on second floor, above the cattle, so as to stay warm. I have been in small, old-school barns, with maybe ten cows, and it's hot in there! Febreze was not yet invented! Also, drinking milk, just as it is milked out is a...

Re: Febreze

Febreeze has a no scent option. I think that may have been it's original formula as it didn't take off until they marketed it as an air freshener. I hear gin or vodka does a fairly good job as F substitute, used in the performing industry, with fancy stage costumes. Next time I stop by the packie (...

Re: New Year's Trip to Ayutthaya

Thanks for the pictures. Tidbit: 1976, on first visit to Asia, backpacking on my way to Chiang Mai by train. All of a sudden everybody stands up, bows towards a distant monument. A temple in Ayutthaya, I later figured. Knowing a little bit about Thai culture, I just did the same! This happened a few...

Re: If you think guitars are overpriced, look at saxophones...

I found a clarinet in its case at the dump reuse/recycle, at least good enough to practice close-up photography. Reading on it, I found " On a hot day a wind instrument will have a higher pitch, while on cold days its pitch will be lower. Thus, when the pitch is too high, it can be lowered by u...

Re: If you think guitars are overpriced, look at saxophones...

Saxophones have complex mechanical parts A sax player friend living near the shore tells me he has to pay attention to the salt air effect on the instrument. I once went to the estate sale of a sax repair man. You should have seen the shop, so many small tools gauges, etc. Sadly, it all went bit by ...

OT: Visited Mark Twain House yesterday!

Visiting cousins in CT, we finally got to visit the Mark Twain House in Hartford, and learn more about Samuel Clemens' life story! First, the place has fabulous interior and exterior details. Craftsmanship was a thing back then... if you had the money! Then the life story of the man and family. The ...

Re: OT: Occasional cigar, yes or no?

I smoked cigars regularly and exclusively for ten years after twenty of cigarettes. I could not dare touch one again. Makes me ill just thinking about it actually, (hypnotism). I was hypnotized in 1984 - fun stuff best high I ever got (limited experience)! Worked superbly. I would never touch a cig...

Re: OT: Occasional cigar, yes or no?

One of the first things a urologist will ask you is if you ever smoked. Mine, old pro, head of his department, asked me. I said, "Oh.. I quit years ago!" His terse reply was " Does not matter, did you ever? And it seems that "ever" matters. For unknown reasons, bladder cance...

Re: OT: Occasional cigar, yes or no?

All good advice.
I am not too concerned about heath issues, just as an older used car, what would have failed already has, and this would be very occasional.
I need to make sure I enjoy it... by trying. Also, cigars seem to be living things, needs proper care.

OT: Occasional cigar, yes or no?

I last smoked daily cigarettes in 1984, had a cigar a few years ago, BIL backyard after a holiday meal. I feel like I would like to smoke a cigar now and then, say, three a month, a bit like you would have a taste of a good Cognac or such. Yes, or no? I note that: - don't want to get addicted to nic...

I was repainting our bedroom when the OJ trial went on. I know exactly where I was in my work when I heard the verdict. Right under the left-hand window sill, a difficult spot to reach without messing up the white trim...!

Kennedy's death: Wee lad in France, son of a village schoolteacher, it was my assignment to put up flags on the school building facade on national holidays. President De Gaulle declared a national day of mourning for Kennedy's death, so I went up the attic to install the French flag fitted with a su...

Meh. Dog (2!) walking on the many beautiful wood trails here, ain't much, but enough to ease my foot neuropathy. Other that that, I do not really care about getting in better shape, as I have done most of what I would ever accomplish. I fail to see the humor in the future. Edit: I forgot to add that...

Darn.. the old ladies at thrift shops now spot good clothing brands and mark them up.
Forget about finding that near-new six-dollar L.L. Bean parka, it is now marked up to twelve!

I guess you have to wait for the five-dollar-a-bag day to score.

Yep, the lamp-making out of old stuff can be something else, saw a bunch made of old film cameras, that were probably in working order, some iconic actually.
