Re: Van Halen in Niagara Falls, 1978
That night at this Niagara Falls Convention Center Van Halen were opening for Black Sabbath on their Never Say Die! Tour. What a show that must have been! I've got a Strat by Fender Starcaster with a maple fretboard and the 70s headstock that I picked up on the cheap and which I've been thinking ab...

Re: If you think guitars are overpriced, look at saxophones...
My MIL has my late FIL's baritone sax sitting in her apartment in it's case. $5000 sax when it was new about 10-15 years back. I'd hate to think what it would be worth new now, and no idea what it is worth used.

Re: Electric Vehicles
Infrastructure will not be be built before the cars can use it. It will be built on a slow basis. Anyway, they charge twice as much as it would cost to recharge in your own home. And as to fast charging, the faster you charge a battery, you shorten it's life, and increase the risk of overheating/ex...

Re: Merry Christmas!
Belated Merry Christmas, Jeff and all! Sometimes it happens, lots of views and few responses; I think this time of the year almost everybody is very busy with Christmas rushes, so maybe not enough time to sit down and comment? Anyway, Merry Christmas! I was intentionally into an introspective enjoy...

I find the pickups muddy at times as well. For the most part, they sounded great, but....some models don't like them at all.
I though about finding some cheap actives to put in.

Re: Electric Vehicles
Personal opinion here: EVs are not all the way there yet. The charging infrastructure needs to get better across North America, and the charging needs to get faster. At this point, if we had to replace our van, I would suggest the Sienna hybrid to my wife. The other thing is that people get so caugh...

Re: Eart Guitar stainless frets.
Yeah, I'm waiting for a community of non-shills talking it up. I love SS frets, especially for writing on a guitar, because I might just play the same phrase 300 times before I know what comes after it. But most YouTubers are less than honest in reviewing, so I can wait it out. Famous last words......

Re: Whats your' latest gear acquisition?
My latest is a small one. My Yamaha Pacifica 1221 has been lacking something ever since I bought it -- a decent tremolo arm. As the bridge, a Yamaha RM Pro II, was one of those "let's improve the Floyd!!" designs, trem arms are basically only available from Frets on the Net, and after ship...

Re: THE SCHISM OF BEING A GIBSON PROPONENT
Back in the day, Gibson discovered that when they raised prices, sales went up. This was because the higher price raised its perceived value to buyers.
So why not charge what the market will bear? If people are willing to pay, I am sure Gibson is willing to let them.

...I talk to slaveunit every once in a blue moon. I wonder why so many regulars at the old site never really showed up here. Quite a lot initially registered and a small number pop in from time to time, but it's few and far between... I try to make it here once a day, though I don't always succeed....

I am looking at a sell off soon. I have two RG350s. If I could replace both with an RG550, that would work for me. See? Cutting back!

Re: PSA: Interesting Agile triple pickup AL/LP - $300 at GC
Some other things I notice are that the finish looks to have either taken on a haze under the paint (as older poly guitars sometimes do), or it may have gotten the Scotch-Brite treatment. It has that eggshell finish look. The triple uncovered cream pickups are probably an homage to Ace Frehley. So ...

Re: Whats on your work bench?
Looks like I might be going back to the zinc saddles. Everything is so middy and bright now that the frequencies seem at war with each other, and what little low end this thing had is gone. Perhaps when the strings go dead it'll be better, but right now it sounds like I added a distorion pedal with...
