Re: PSA: Interesting Agile triple pickup AL/LP - $300 at GC

You've got a good eye there. Zooming in to the pictures, I also notice that the middle pickup ring has no screws (?!) and the pickguard looks like it's been filed down or cut away.

Re: Recommend me a tuner pedal

Thanks again to everyone for their advice! I found a TU-3 in very good condition for sale near me on FB, and picked it up today. (And it came with a 1 Spot adapter thrown into the deal and was still a very decent price!)

Re: About that trem

I had a Squier "Standard" some years ago, and it had that same two-point trem, and it was pretty damn good, as I recall. I could go on and on about what I consider the design flaws of the original Fender tremolo, and how nobody seems to read the original patent description or Fender's own ...

Re: Les Trem questions

Have you considered the GFS X Trem stud mount version that attaches into your existing anchor holes? I only mention it because I have one on the way. The black Friday sales might still be happening with them. It leans more toward a Bigsby type of trem, which I like. Less Floydy, which I consider th...

Re: Les Trem questions

I put a roller bridge on my Firebird with the Les Trem (just a $20 GFS unit), and I also tried something else: raising the tailpiece height by using washers under it, thereby decreasing the break angle at the bridge. It feels distinctly more "slinky" after these changes, and I think it hol...

Thanks for the writeup! I can't believe that 5 Core amp gets 4.2 stars on Amazon, but pretty much everything gets about 4.2 stars, so you really can't trust Amazon scores. Reviews like yours are much more useful!

Got a GFS roller bridge for my Firebird with the Les Trem. Let's see if it helps with tuning stability. Anybody know if the more expensive ones are actually substantially better than the GFS ones?

The sheer fact that it is still listed suggests to me that it is not real, because if it were someone would have grabbed it. (Then again, I'm reminded of the old joke about the two economists walking down the street; one points and says, "Hey, look, there's a $100 bill lying in the street!"...

Re: Week old NPD. EHX content

Very cool! I recently broke out my Small Stone again, partly because I'm in a two-guitar band and I want to distinguish my sound and the other guitarist's a bit. I feel like a little phaser goes a long way, but the Small Stone can do either subtle or over-the-top really well.

Re: 57 les paul

I am not an expert, but I think this one's fishy. The trussrod cover says "Custom", but I don't think the Custom was available in sunburst or with two pickups. More importantly, the tuner knobs look like they're metal, and I don't think that was a feature of 1957 Les Pauls. Of course it's ...

How did I forget Audacity?! Thanks for mentioning that, sabasgr68 , I love Audacity for general-purpose messing around with audio. Re: 1st Gen Agile AL at GC - $349

I don't know if GC paying out half the amount that they list the guitars for is an urban legend or not, but if it isn't then it gives some sort of crude baseline to estimate what it might fetch individual to individual. Maybe figure GC trade-in value plus 50% or GC listed price minus 25%? The only ...

Most Cosmic Psychos shows are not quite this rowdy, but the one I saw was close, and this song is a definite earworm.
(The video begins partway through because the beginning is a bit shambolic - I think somebody steps on the guitarist's cable.)

Re: Mods and attitudes

I agree with you about mods in general. In rare cases they can add value, like "I replaced the notoriously cheap stock tuners with high-quality locking tuners", but more often it's a wash or even cheapens the instrument, because now it's not a Flerkenberger CX1000, it's a "Flerkenberg...

I feel like slow is very useful for learning things at first, especially when you're trying to learn a solo with about a million notes per second! But don't stay there too long; you always want to be pushing yourself just a little. The software I really like for slowing music (which has a bunch of o...

To be clear, it's not just that it is a guy. I don't want a picture of a shirtless woman on the back of my guitars either. Or a woman with a shirt, or a goat, or puppies and kittens. That seems like kind of a weird place for art anyway, to be honest. "I call this piece 'Spartan Warrior With Bu...

I had a sheet of pickguard material to make a new pickguard for one of my projects. It's big enough to cut out two pickguards. I managed to mess up on two attempts. *sigh* One of them is just kind of cracked, so might still be kind of usable.
