What a great ride that must be. I was near the blue ridge last year between GA and TN during the height of the fall foliage. We came up through the smoky Mountains. There’s so many beautiful outlooks, it’s hard to not stop at every single one.

Re: Whats on your work bench?
Teflon should not burn or melt when touched with your soldering iron. I’ll have to test it at some point. I can’t really find any burn marks anywhere despite the terrible solder work. I am leaning towards decommissioning this amp from gigs and rehearsal asap. I intentionally overlooked its appearan...

Whats on your work bench?
Oww, hope that isn't solid wire as it looks like telephone wire or Cat5 wire. Only made to handle 30volts. If you plan on never moving the power transformer, i would cut all those wires a lot shorter. I remember when I first shared photos of this some years ago, there was a comment about the wire b...

So despite the lack of a workbench, I felt I had to say something here about an amp I bought from UBuyGuitars.com. Remember those guys?! I picked up among others, an “unknown” speakerless 2x10 cabinet with a chassis but no details for $30 (plus shipping) and when it arrived, I found what appeared to...

We’re gonna need a bigger magnet for the magnet fishing rig to snag that container. [emoji39]

Monoprice 15 watt tube amp
I’ve never played one, but I can’t say I haven’t been tempted. The 70/80 speaker does get decent reviews from many players even though it’s often dogged because it’s such a staple offering in cheaper amps. I can certainly understand desiring a change in tone from a different speaker though. It’s fun...

I scooped up a 1935? Kalamazoo KG-11 acoustic guitar. The dating is approximate at the moment based on its construction and intel on the inter webs. It has a FON factory order number, but the stamp is almost faded beyond recognition. Almost! Photography is helping to pull out what’s hidden. It needs...

Ya the videos don’t work for me either. I did a quick search too but judging by the small amount available , I suppose they’re limiting the available recordings, or taking them down. Who knows if this will continue to work for long or not but here’s one I just watched https://youtu.be/GV18OOJKOjY I ...

That’s a beauty! All of them. I remember when those blue DC guitars hit the shop and they caused quite a stir. The top of the line guitars really oozed quality from every corner. I originally joined AGF just prior to buying a 2006 AL-3000M from another member. It wowed me so much that I bought the A...

I can’t wait to see that! $3. Damn. Those seeing eye tubes are worth way more than that by themselves. Cool project

Ya if all else fails, I will definitely see if it’s a good champ donor. The 6sc7 is a GTY tube like this one. I love the crazy rebranded logo. It sounds so sci-fi. Overall I did pretty well only paying $30 for the reel to reel and $45 for the military radio. I usually see people ask way more for wa...

The Webster or webcor model 201 is like you called it. All octals 6sc7gt 6SL7gt 6sn7gt 6k6gt 6x5gt and a 6e5 seeing eye tube. I paid $30 for the thing and it was tested as working. I assume it needs service still. The most exciting part for me is that the seller said the tape real has a recording of...

Looks like a pair of 6v6? Can't see the preamp tube but a good find. Looks like most everything you need right there. As for the Webster, i had something like that, probably all octals inside too. Ya! Sorry I wanted to include some details but inevitably the minute I try to post something, I’m need...

How many extra tubes do you keep stashed per amp?
Just did a widowmaker, put the tubes in series, the rectifier was used as a dummy and put solid state diodes in for the bridge. Isolation transformer was from Mouser about $20. This may be off topic but I was brainstorming the other day on “what if” you wished to put a full wave rectification in on...

Bump for block inlay! I forget the member who made this phrase well known. Anyways I kinda like a lot of the design choices even if the gold is a little much. $600? For real? That’s a little hard to swallow unless these truly play and feel that good. I played a newer squier cv jazzmaster and it left...

Just did a widowmaker, put the tubes in series, the rectifier was used as a dummy and put solid state diodes in for the bridge. Isolation transformer was from Mouser about $20. So it went from having a half wave rectifier to a full wave essentially? Would that improve the sound any in your estimati...

How many extra tubes do you keep stashed per amp?
I only gig a couple of my amps (the others stay home) so most of what I have is for fun or tube rolling. I always carry a spare set after getting to a gig and realizing a sovtek 12ax7 died from being put down hard. It happened when a friend carried it for me. Whoops. I have a stash of tubes that wou...

Whats your' latest gear acquisition?
Not exactly my acquisitions, but my 8 year old sons. We recently got a mid 90s miniature fender telecaster, made in Japan and sold only on the Japanese market. The Scale length is just 18 3/4” !! It needed a little tune up and the neck pickup was mostly dead but I’m working on fixing that too. The o...

Re: UPDATE Tubes - get em while you can
A second prediction; China will suddenly and mysteriously start selling “rebranded” tubes that look an awful lot like the Russian tubes that can no longer be imported from Russia to the U.S. I agree with most of the above. On this last point, I think China is just as likely to suddenly start creati...

UPDATE Tubes - get em while you can
Just a cursory look around, many retailers are cleaned out (or nearly) of common tube types (where’s all the 12ax7 tubes?). A few have some but prices have generally inflated by twice or more. Others have disclaimers about contact before ordering. There’s probably a max quantity limit. It’s like toi...

Re: Tubes - get em while you can
I have a “blue” retro valve and I have to admit it surprised me. The quality as mentioned didn’t entirely mimic a good 12ax7, but it wasn’t bad. Honestly I have had some cheaper 12ax7 tubes sound worse. But I do agree that some of the tactile qualities didn’t quite arrive in the same way. Maybe I wa...
