Re: Whats on your work bench?

I finally (I turned 52 last December) put together the Flying V kit my kids got me for my 50th birthday! 20240422_144558.jpg Yes, my kids painted the design. Miraculously, my soldering job took. It still needs a setup and a few finishing touches, but it works. One part of the setup will be new tuner...

Re: And so it ends

The ES58 doesn't show as available on Amazon Canada, and that's too bad because the reviews I saw were great.

Re: Vocal mics?

Can't go wrong with Shure. I like some models of AKG . I think one of my favs is the D-88s (discontinued) which is very similar to the SM-58. I also have an AKG P5 that ain't half bad. If you get a decent mic it will last you a loooong time. Yeah, still don't want to spend much because I have no id...

Re: Vocal mics?

I have tried many mics over the years. Cheap ones and pricey. Audio Technica and Behringer make decent cheap ones. I used Shure for many many years and then four years ago I picked up a Heil PR22. I kind of got used to it and thought it was fine but had the opportunity to use someone else's Shure B...

On sale at Musician's Friend for $30 (it often is), is a Digital Reference drv200. Fairly close to the Shures, but a budget version. I have a pair just in case I need extras. https://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/digital-reference-drv200-dynamic-lead-vocal-mic/430558000000000?cntry=US&cur=U...

Vocal mics?

I am likely entering a jamming situation shortly where I will be...*gulp* the singer. No brown M&Ms for me! I might need to provide my own vocal mic. Given that this is casual jamming, anyone have an good recommendations for an inexpensive, but not garbage, vocal mic? I have seen Pyles for next ...

Re: Having problems with my nut

I am not fond of shims either, but did what I thought I had to. The shim and the nut are attached with wood glue. I am sure that part of the problem is the hockey stick headstock shape. In my research, the KramerForumz folks warned a lot of people that the shape and angle of the headstock make it ha...

Re: Having problems with my nut

Sadly the government doesn't cover GUITAR nuts. Neither does my G string.

No nut files to my name, so filing is out.

Oddly enough, I had a similar issue on the high B string of my JS22-7. The shim solved it completely. Of course, it also has a straightish string pull.

There is room. The string rings freely between the nut and the 3rd fret. The neck has a slight bit of relief.

Now the issue is lessened again, but still present. It gets worse if I bend the string behind the nut.

Having problems with my nut

Yes, it's true, and quite distressing. Heh-heh. I replaced the nut on my Kramer Baretta Special with the agreed upon replacement Tusq XL. I got the nut to fit clean and square (no sanding on the bottom of the nut) and my B string (thank heavens it wasn't my G string) started buzzing. The buzzing wen...

Re: Grand Marquis 97 vintage FS near me

Pluses and minuses for these. The biggest plus is that these are simple cars. If they break, parts are easy to come by, and they are easy to fix. And they don't break as much as some other cars. They can be modded with things like cop tires, cop shocks, etc. Another plus is that they are big. The do...

No pics, but I assure you these things happened. Went on a bit of a "dammit, I am going to fix stuff" kick recently. Job 1 was to deal with the garbage stock bridge pickup on my Jackson JS22-7. Just snarl, no tone. I had an old Crunch Lab 7 lying around that wouldn't hold pickup screws bec...

I am basically a slave to Sirius/XM in the car, going from Hair Nation to Boneyard to Classic Rewind. I haven't listened to local FM in a very long time.

Well, the traditional gift is a ruby (according to Google). Not sure what your budget is, but a ruby pendant would be nice, or a ring with rubies, dinner at Ruby Tuesday, etc.

I don't suggest a heartfelt rendition of Ruby Tuesday though.
