Re: My Christmas present to myself
That looks like fun! Can you shed some light on pups and playability? Pickups are called Swingbuckers. As far as I know they are only available with this guitar. They are standard humbuckers but the coils are wired in parallel like a Gretsch. If you pull up the tone pot it switches to serial like a...

I don't play a lot of slide but this guitar seems built for it.

My Christmas present to myself
I bought an Epiphone Swingster. I had been looking at hollow bodies for several months. This came up on sale for $300 off with six months no interest, couldn't resist. I'm trying my hand at jazz improvising. Not very effective yet, lots of mistakes in here. The chords are from Gershwin's I Got Rhyth...

Re: AGF Coffeehouse / Open Mic
I got to say the guitars sounded great nice mixing. The vocals were...... fun. I call mine placeholder vocals. As in "insert proper singer here" I hope I didnt offend but the vocals felt very added ontop and not really integrated like the rest of the recording. Thus my apology to Tom Pett...

Re: AGF Coffeehouse / Open Mic
Man, I gotta get a guitar with P90’s. @Kerry Brown , how did you record the guitars? What did the signal chain look like? It was recorded on a pc with Reaper using various plugins. I used a Scarlett 2i2 interface. No actual amps or pedals. It’s all digital. i prefer real amps for live use but at ho...

Re: AGF Coffeehouse / Open Mic
I did this cover as part of a challenge on another forum. The challenge was to play only one guitar for a week. I picked my Epiphone Les Paul Junior P90. It hasn't been getting much love. I set it up for slide about a year ago. I'm terrible at slide so it doesn't get a lot of play. I put it back to ...

Noodling to Stormy Monday
One of my favourite all time songs. The rhythm track is on a Stratocaster, The lead is on on an Epiphone Dot. Recorded with GarageBand. Very happy with the rhythm track, Not so happy with the lead. It's a tough one to play lead to. If anyone wants to try it I will upload the rhythm track. https://so...
Re: Life
Appropriate that I come home and find this post. Thanks for the share. I just got in from the funeral of a friend I have known for 36 years. He had been in the rehab/nursing home for the last 4-5 months. We had many talks before over those 36 years, and many phone visits since he went in after his ...
Re: Life
It started out very dark in a minor key. It was way too dark. I changed it to a major key. I wanted to get across that death is part of life and remembering those who have passed keeps them alive in our memories.
Life
I turned 66 a week ago. I've been reflecting on life and some of my friends who are no longer with us.

Feeling blue
Thanks to COVID-19 I haven't jammed in months. I really miss playing with other musicians. I sat down at my computer and started playing. I felt way better after this clawed it's way out. This is what the blues is all about. Sad music to cheer you up :} https://soundcloud.com/kerrydbrown/blues-in-a-...

Re: Delusional Musicians
Don't be so judgemental. Music is about entertainment. It is about the audience not the people playing the music. For me a musician is someone who entertains the audience while making some music. If they need something to help them do that then what is wrong with that? Recording is different from pl...

Re: Trying something way out of my wheelhouse
Still working on this. It has been suggested it's not hard rock but heavy rock I've added an intro with a twelve string and a track with the power chords on the twelve string. I've left some room for vocals (I'm working on lyrics) and have the start of an outro. Still need a bridge as well. https://...

Re: Show a Guitar U Played Today
Was doing some recording and wasn’t sure how to get the sound I was looking for. This Vantage VP795 has two MMK45 pickups with coil split and out of phase. It can get many different tones so when I’m searching this is my go to.

Re: Trying something way out of my wheelhouse
When/if I come up with lyrics there will be a lot less lead. I’m trying to come up with some sort of bridge or chorus as well. I’ve never played lead to anything like this. I was trying to see what worked and what didn’t. Thanks for the suggestions.

Trying something way out of my wheelhouse
Most of my songs are blues or ballads, usually acoustic. Lately I’ve been trying to get more of an edge. I have never played much heavy rock or metal. Not sure what to do. This is pretty much just wailing in minor pentatonic. Looking for constructive criticism on how to improve this. So far it’s jus...

Re: Budget Acoustic & Classical?
Without knowing your budget it’s hard to recommend. I have a La Patrie Etude that I bought used for a couple hundred Canadian. I wanted to try a nylon string guitar. It is now my couch guitar and gets a lot of play the cedar tops songs a sweet song. For a steel string you can’t go wrong with Yamaha....

Re: AGF Coffeehouse / Open Mic
I wrote this song a few years ago. I was walking beside the Squamish River. My back was killing me and the chorus came to me. When I got home I decided no one wanted to hear a song a bout my bad back so it became a song about love gone wrong.

My user name is my name. I decided long ago that I didn't want to be anonymous. I never use a name other than mine. I own what I post anywhere on the Internet. My avatar is me playing a Larrivee L42 12 string at a local bar jam. Before COVID-19 I played in bar jams at least once a week for the last ...
