Re: Whats on your work bench?

Decided to improve one of my Vs...it was eggshell white, with a Yamaha 24 fret half scalloped (towards the end) neck. Never was quite happy with the finish quality, and there's barely enough room in the bridge to intonate so I got a wider bridge for it and refinished it in red. Also the scallop work...

Re: NGD: Chapman

OK now proper introduction of the new axe... So indeed I traded that red Charvel I fixed up nice for this 2019 Chapman Ghostfret. So far loving it. The feel and stance is the same as on my Dean V's, perhaps a little wider fretboard at body end. Very similar neck, fits me like a glove. I really like ...

Re: Marshall Origins

I tried a few origins, one which golem had and they are not my cup of tea. Good amps mind you, but having worked on plexis and steel-fronts, the genuine sound includes punishing the speakers. The second Headfirst mod sounded better, IMHO, than a stock Origin. Yeah, stock they ten...

NGD: Chapman

This is actually a little premature because I'm only just about to go trade my Charvel for a Chapman Explorer type. I'm just posting it now, because any minute now I won't be able to access AGF any more since using Gmail for login is disallowed now, and it's the only email I've had for 20 years and ...

Re: Marshall Origins

I hate soldering...am not very good with it. But as far as that goes, it isn't hard really. Just solder off a component - it's important to have a solder vacuum or strips to get off the old solder - and swap for a new one. They're all rather big, just basic components. I found it easier than solderi...

Also, there are many places where only known email providers are allowed, only Gmail icloud outlook mail are possible, no some random fg.ie.com whatevevers at all. If I get mail from an email that has an unrecognizable, non-word ending like that, it goes to spam folder automatically. It's just reall...

Well this is odd

Hm, Recent change to disallow Gmail etc addresses has made it impossible to use AGF via the computer, but Tapatalk access seems to work fine. I guess, this is also a test of that. I don't know why Gmail etc are banned...I mean, who uses anything but Gmail, Icloud etc these days as they come with you...

Re: Building a controller with Arduino

Well, been using it a while now, and it works really well. Awesome to have sound to switch immediately with no delay like with pedals, and with delays and verbs decaying over the next sound too. And the shape works like a charm with the extra wide button spacing - finally don't have to look down for...

Re: Hotone Pulze

Yeah...420€ it's not too bad, and likely to cause very little 'domestic distortion' with the rather non-technical appearance. If it doubles as a home BT speaker with good sound, it's a good concept. If I didn't already have a plugin rig as a guitar amp, those Amperos could well be my choice of model...

Re: Building a controller with Arduino

program.jpg That's how simple the program really is. And even much of that is just my comments so I can remember which lead goes where. IMG_20240331_190930.jpg Gut shot - yeah it looks terrible now, but I need to drill a hole for the USB passthrough connector still, and come up with some way to att...

Building a controller with Arduino

As I'm using a laptop as my 'preamp' I am switching to using a VST host for various plugins, between which I can change with almost no delay just by soloing the one I want. For that, however, I need to use keyboard commands. So I am building a an Arduino based foot switch that's seen as a HID device...

If it only had MIDI support ...

...and I can already report on this more, just spent a while putting the Toneocracy modeler thru a test. The sound is really good. Right up there with Neural and others indeed. There's nicely low noise to driven sounds even without a gate, which is a clear plus in comparison with the competition. Al...

Re: Tonocracy and NAM

Yep, just saw something about those somewhere as well. Thanks for the reminder, will have to check them out for sure! Although between my GX-100 and Neural Plini as well as Amplitube 5 I don't have any need for new sounds, it's always interesting to see if they come up with new features I could use ...

Re: Marshall Origins

Very interesting! I remember that one of my gripes about the Origin 20 was that it was very vintage, for better or worse - you didn't get much overdrive out of it unless you completely dimed both preamp and master volume. Sounds like this mod might change that. Yep, it completely changes things. I ...

Re: Marshall Origins

I would love to grab a 20 watt and do the mod. There is one not far from me. I love it. Not very hard to do, if you have any experience soldering. It was well worth watching the videos though, both the 20 and 50, as the guide and the videos aren't that straightforward to follow. I wrote the whole t...

Marshall Origins

I've probably posted about Origins before, but anyway. Thought I'd post a simple comparison. The Origins are very good as is, but having a single preamp tube, overloading that tube makes things pretty fizzy, in a nasty Plexi style. Some may like it, but there's a mod by Headfirst that takes the loop...

Re: What do you want to build?

Another V at some point....I've got eight vees and one SG which I'm still working on, but ...I have a bit of GAS still to build a V with best possible materials. That would mean Precision Guitars kits, but those are quite expensive, and with added tax and shipping from Canada that self made guitar w...

Re: NGD, project SG

And yeah, I've bought Sintoms pre-radiused SS fret wires from Philadelphia luthiers, those are great and cheap and they will provide any radius desired. The only difficult thing about SS frets is bending them to the right radius. You probably need a good bending machine and lots of straight material...
