GLS ES58 used to be an inexpensive alternate to the Shure. I don't know if they are available anymore.
Added: The GLS ES57 is currently available.

Re: Decision on a new Gretsch streamliner
The obvious answer is to get them both!
If you insist on only getting one (& forever lamenting not also getting the other one) I would go with the Walnut Jr. You will be drawn to playing it because you like the looks. Plus it gives you more variety with the other Gretsch that you have.

Re: The Firefly Has Landed **Update**
I had to bump this thread again to mention how pleased I am with the 338. To recap, I installed Grovers, some custom Buddha pups and I stained the fretboard with ebony stain by Minwax. I took it to rehearsal last week and gave it a good workout through my Peavey C30. It is a perfect player and just...

Re: Thoughts on Allen Eden bodies and necks, or other budget sources
@ILuvTeles - I'm curious about these too. How would you describe the neck profile? slim, medium C, Chunky like SX strat necks, etc.? IIRC the necks were a medium C. The things I liked were the 43 mm width & the 10" radius. Fretwork seemed to be pretty good. Nut needed filing (no surprise)....

Anyone else been following 'Itchy Boots'? I got kind of hooked on it. I especially liked the episodes in Alaska. My daughter lived up there, so it was neat seeing some of the sights again. Spoiler alert: She finally made it all the way to Prudhoe Bay. The last episode, which is a longer episode summ...
