Re: The best worst music in the world? "Philosophy of the World" by the Shaggs
I'm sure that they did their best to earn their dad's approval, but that album is an aural version of "The Emperor's New Clothes". It's not even a worthwhile ironic listen. I feel bad for them after hearing it, particularly since I think the girls didn't want to do it in the first place. I...

Re: My Solution to Option Paralysis
Those old portable cassette players bring back memories. I think the first "rock and roll" cassettes I got were KISS Alive II, and Alice Cooper's Greatest Hits. I wore that portable out. Luckily my parents bought me and my brother a full stereo with cassette/turntable and AM/FM from Sears ...

"Schlemiel! Schlimazel! Hasenpfeffer Incorporated!" Seeing as I don't have kids so I'm not up on all this stuff, can I get a ruling: Does this qualify as a Dad joke? As a father of 3, and a practitioner and amateur connoisseur of Dad jokes, my ruling is that it *does* qualify. I would iss...

Sounds great to me! Some tasty tone. I thought the solo was right on. Stones is always welcome in my ear. Is that the tele through the Princeton?

Re: NBD: Rickenbacker 4003W
That's a peach. I got the opportunity to play a Ric many years ago, and it was the only time I ever played one. I was afraid the tone would be clanky and Chris Squire-ish, but it sat in the mix pretty well, and sounded great. Was surprised at how light it was. Ric's always looked "heavy" t...

Colorado is so beautiful. Envy the ability to get to altitude and enjoy the cool weather. It's been stereotypical Texas hot for the last couple weeks, and I'm sure we're in for more of it. Wife and I were up in Silverthorne/Frisco area a couple years ago, and really enjoyed it. Beautiful.

Isn't it funny how we sometimes gravitate toward some of the sounds we grew up with, and sort of influenced what tones we like and want to hear in our own stuff. You nailed it with the 70s observation--at least for me!

Re: Trying Out the Joyo "American Sound" Pedal
What surprised me was how close you nailed Gene's bass tone on that tune. Was the bass was going through the Joyo American Sound? Thanks John. Yeah, I recorded everything direct through that chain. And yeah, I was actually trying to just make the bass pop a little more against the guitars, but I li...

Re: Trying Out the Joyo "American Sound" Pedal
I have the British Sound and really like it. I sent back a Box of Rock because it didn't do a Marshall sound any better than the $30 Joyo. Great job on the song. Well played and arranged. I can hear the different tones/drives throughout the piece. The singing is right on as well. Tight job all-arou...

I can recommend Audio Technica's ATH-M20x.
They're inexpensive and good sound. And pretty flat.
10' cord.

Re: Trying Out the Joyo "American Sound" Pedal
I was just looking at a Joyo product. I was thinking about getting wireless modules for my microphone. They have been around awhile and make pretty good stuff that is very affordable. I think I had a pedal or two by Joyo back in the day when I had just short of a million pedals. The song sounds gre...

KISS Cover Using The Joyo "American Sound" Pedal
Here's an in-progress recording using the American Sound pedal from Joyo. I wanted to see what kind of tone this thing is capable of, and so far I like what it can do. The rough mix is an old KISS song called Comin' Home. Lots of editing and EQ work left to do, but maybe will give you an idea of wha...
